Fraser Russell

Biography

"Dr Fraser Russell obtained his PhD in the laboratory of Prof. Roger Summers, Dept. of Pharmacology, University of Melbourne (1994), where he investigated regulation of β-adrenoceptors in the heart. He completed successful post-doctoral studies in the Clinical Pharmacology Unit, University of Cambridge, UK (1994-1998) working with Dr Anthony Davenport, and then in the Dept. of Anatomy and Structural Biology, University of Otago, NZ working with A/Prof. Ian McLennan (1998-2000). He returned to Australia in 2000 as a Research Fellow in the Dept. of Medicine, University of Queensland, investigating the cardiostimulatory effects of urotensin-II in human heart with A/Prof. Peter Molenaar. Dr Russell is currently a Senior Lecturer in Biochemical Pharmacology at the University of the Sunshine Coast (2005-present). His research group is investigating the anti-inflammatory and pro-resolving properties of omega-3 fatty acids and their metabolites, and their ability to attenuate the progression of abdominal aortic aneurysm, and the wound-healing potential of Australian stingless bee cerumen. Dr Russell is the Biomedical Science Program Coordinator at USC, Member of the University Research Committee; Animal Ethics Committee; Inflammation and Healing Research Cluster; and Sunshine Coast Hospital Institute Research Lab Working Group, and member of the Australasian Society for Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists (ASCEPT, 1989-present), and the Australian Vascular Biology Society (AVBS, 2015-present)."
