Biography
His graduation was the Bachelor of Mathematics from UFRJ (1972), the master's degree in Mathematics was from IMPA (1974) and his doctorate in Mathematics was also from IMPA (1977). He is currently a full professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and an IB category researcher at Cnpq. He completed post-doctoral studies at the University of Berkeley (79-81) and Maryland (87-91), both in the USA . He is the author of the book -Introduction to Classical Mechanics -EDUSP (which was nominated for the Jabuti Trophy 2007 among the top ten in the area of ​​Exact Sciences) and co-author of the book - Common Differential Equations (Col Mat Univ-IMPA). In 2005 he was awarded the Commendation of the National Order of Scientific Merit. In 2007 he was elected Full Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. In 2013 he was elected a Fellow of TWAS, The World Academy of Sciences.
Research Interest
His research work is in the area of ​​Mathematics, with emphasis on Dynamical Systems, acting mainly in the following subjects: Ergodic Theory, Thermodynamic Formalism, Invariant Measures, Minimizing Measures, Subdations, Geodetic Flow, Principles of Large Deviations, Correlation Decay, Billings, Aubry-Mather Mechanics, Ergodic Transport Theory, C * algebras, Quantic Information, etc ...
