Biography
His current projects aim to develop neural implants for people with profound deafness or severe visual impairment. Cochlear implants are already used successfully in clinics, but they still provide an inadequate hearing in everyday situations (eg for speech perception with noise, sound localization or music perception). We seek to improve them. Ultimately, our goal is to restore an almost normal hearing and develop a completely implanted prosthesis. Regarding the vision, there is currently no clinically usable prosthesis, but recent research advances open new possibilities. They seek to develop retinal implants through a multidisciplinary project. The first tests on visually impaired patients will begin shortly in Geneva.
