Biography
Sylvia has over 20 years of experience in government and industry which includes Merck and the Loma Linda Veterans Administration Hospital. She has research experience in the therapeutic areas of chronic pain, diabetes, schizophrenia, cancer and excitotoxicity, stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s disease. As a member of the Metabotropic Glutamate Receptor group at Merck, she was instrumental in the identification of amino acids involved in the positive modulation of metabotropic glutamate receptor subtype 2. Sylvia has experience running and optimizing cell-based proliferation assays and immunoassays including ELISA and western blot analysis. She developed functional assays for signal transduction including cAMP detection and cellular ion-flux imaging. At BioAgilytix Labs Sylvia has served as a scientist, supporting the development and validation of cell-based assays. She has been an inventor on a patent and co-authored five peer reviewed publications. She received her Bachelors of Science in Microbiology at the University of Texas, El Paso.
