Biography
Hartmut Leppin studied history and classical philology in Marburg, Heidelberg, Pavia and Rome. After the 1988 state examination in Marburg, he was promoted there in 1990. In 1995 he qualified as a professor at Freie Universität Berlin. In 1995/6 he represented a professorship in Greifswald. He then received a Feodor-Lynen and a Heisenberg scholarship, which he used for research stays in Nottingham and Göttingen; since 2001 he is Professor of Ancient History in Frankfurt am Main. He denied calls to Hanover, Berlin (HU) and Cologne. In 2015 he received the Leibniz Prize of the German Research Association.
