May 4, 1963 Born in Essen 1982-1989 Studied political science, history and economics at the Gerhard Mercator University in Duisburg. 1989 Graduated in Social Science, specializing in political science. 1989-1992 PhD at the Graduate School for Social Sciences at the University of Cologne with a scholarship from the Stiftung Volkswagenwerk. 1992 Dr.sc.pol., Gerhard-Mercator University of Duisburg. 2002 Habilitation, venia legendi in political science, FernUniversität Hagen.
