Biography
Nikolas Wölfing studied economics, political science, and sociology at the University of Potsdam from 2002 to 2005. He then received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in the context of its European Excellence Programme and moved to Paris to study applied mathematics and quantitative economics. The focus of his graduate studies was on industrial and behavioural economics. In September 2007, he graduated from Panthéon-Sorbonne University and the Paris School of Economics, where he also defended his doctoral thesis in October 2013. His works on competition in electricity wholesale have earned him several research awards. Furthermore, he was nominated for the thesis award of all Parisian Universities, entitled "Prix de la Chancellerie de la Sorbonne". Since November 2007, Nikolas Wölfing has been working as a researcher at the Centre for European Economic Research in the Department of Environmental and Resource Economics, Environmental Management. From April 2015 to March 2016, he held a part-time position at the Chair of Economics at ETH Zürich. His research interest is in competition economics, energy markets, strategic behaviour, and the effects of sectoral regulation. By successfully passing EEX’s "Exchange Trader Certification Course", Nikolas Wölfing meets all requirements to work as an exchange trader for the European Energy Exchange (EEX).
