Education / Qualifications 1994: B. Eng. Mining and Metallurgical Engineer. National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Department of Mining Engineering and Metallurgy. Division of Metallurgy and Materials Science, Athens, Greece. 2001: PhD in Metallurgy and Materials Science, Title of the thesis: “ Development of Ti alloys for Biomedical applicationsâ€, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Department of Mining Engineering and Metallurgy, Athens, Greece. Academic and professional positions held 1994-1999: Research fellow in Research Center for Biomaterials, Athens, Greece. 2000-2005: Research fellow in Department of Biomaterials, School of Dentistry, University of Athens. 2005-2009: Lecturer in Biomaterials, School of Dentistry, University of Athens 2009-present: Assistant Professor in Biomaterials, School of Dentistry, University of Athens Academic and professional responsibilities Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Member of Curriculum Committee of School of Dentistry, University of Athens (2005-2008, 2010-2011) Supervision of Master and Doctoral Thesis in Biomaterials field. Research Grants and Contracts 2002-2003: Scholarship from the National Foundation for Scholarship for postdoctoral research entitled: “Assessment of optimum surface roughness for metal-ceramic bond strength of representative dental alloys’. 2011: Scholarship from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) for the research protocol entitled “Effect of surface roughening treatments on the electrochemical behavior of Ti surfaces for implant dentistryâ€. The experimental part of this project was carried out in Dental and Biomaterials Research Group under the guidance of Prof Mueller in “Charité†Medical University of Berlin in September-October 2011. Awards and Honours 1994: Award for distinguished undergraduate studies. Technical Chamber of Greece. 2003: The research study entitled ‘Comparative study of the effect of in vitro and in vivo aging on morphology, microstructure and elemental composition of nickel-titanium orthodontic archwires’ by Zinelis S, Gioka C, Makou M and Eliades T. published in Hellenic Orthodontic Review (in English and Greek) (2003:6;45-58) won the first award in 2004 from the European Federation of Orthodontics (FEO). This award is presented to the best scientific research published in European Journals in the field of Orthodontics. 2008: The research study entitled ‘‘Micro CT evaluation of the marginal fit of different In-Ceram alumina coping†presented in June 2008 in Madrid won the second prize from the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. 2012: The research study entitled “Interfacial characterization of all-ceramic core materials with veneering porcelain†by Tagmatarchis A, Tripodakis AP, Filippatos G, Zinelis S and Eliades G. won the first prize in 5th EAED Scientific Research Award of European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (ΕΑΕD). This completion was held in Cesme, Turkey in 2012 during the 26th conference of EAED.
