Biography
Shigeki Takeda got Ph.D. from University of Tokyo in 1991 and has been a faculty member in Gunma University since 2001. He identified several novel G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) genes using a bioinformatics and focused on the novel ligand screening for them. He identified novel agonists of 5-oxo-ETE receptor, opioid receptor, MrgX2, GPR119, TGR5, and so on. He is also investigating mechanism of protein self-assembly, especially morphogenesis of tailed bacteriophages, by using protein engineering and X-ray crystallography. Recently, his most focusing project is development of transgenic silk worms to express GPCRs and protein drugs. Transgenic silk worms are expected to produce huge amount of recombinant proteins without any high-tech equipment.
