Biography
Based in the School of Geography and Archaeology at NUI Galway, Dr Gary Goggins is Project Manager with the Horizon 2020 project, ENERGISE ‘European Network for Research, Good Practice and Innovation for Sustainable Energy’. He holds a PhD in Environmental Sociology and Sustainability Studies, an MA in Community Development and an undergraduate degree in Business Studies. His main research interests are in relation to sustainable consumption and individual and socio-material influences on consumption patterns. He is also concerned with how knowledge is communicated with policy makers, civil society and industry. He previously worked as a project manager in the construction industry and has worked in the NGO sector in Ireland and Zambia, where he was responsible for developing and implementing a number of sustainable community-led projects.
Research Interest
Gary's main research interests are in the areas of environmental social science; sustainable consumption and production; sustainable development and well-being; and socio-technical transitions toward sustainable lifestyles.
