Seginer Rachel

Biography

Rachel Seginer is professor emeritus of human development and education in the Department of Counseling and Human Development.  She received her BA (Psychology, Sociology) and her PhD (Psychology) from Hebrew University of Jerusalem and her MSc (Child Development and Family Relations) from Cornell University.   She joined the Faculty of Education (then the School of Education) at the University of Haifa in 1984 and since then taught undergraduate and graduate courses, supervised the work of MA and PhD students, was elected Chairperson of the Department of Teaching and Teacher Education (1990-1995) and Dean of the Faculty of Education (1998-2001), and served three terms as member of the Senate of the University of Haifa..  Her research and scientific publications examine the development of Jewish (secular and ultra-orthodox), Arab, and Druze adolescents and emerging adults with special emphasis on the conceptualization and multi-dimensional analyses of two issues: parents' educational involvement and future orientation.  As part of her scientific activities Prof. Seginer  received several research grants from the Israeli Ministry of Education and the DAAD (Germany), .was a member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Research Adolescence and of the Journal of Adolescent Research and is currently a member of the Editorial Boards of two Journals: Family Science, and Identity.  Her work on future orientation, its inter-and intrapersonal antecedents and developmental outcomes – as well as relevant research conducted by other researchers -- has been reviewed in a recent volume published by Springer and entitled Future orientation: Developmental and ecological perspectives. In 2012 she received the International Society for the Study of Behavioral Development (ISSBD) award for distinguished contributions to the international advancement of research and theory in behavioral development.

Research Interest
