Biography
Augusto Caraceni is Director of Palliative Care, Pain Therapy and Rehabilitation Departement of the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, Milano Italy, Vice President of the European Association for Palliative Care Research Network (EAPC - RN), Professor of palliative medicine at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim and director of the Dipartimento interaziendale di cure palliative ASL Milano. Augusto Caraceni, was born in Milan on August, the 8th 1960, where he lives with his wife and two sons. After graduating from medical school at the Università degli Studi di Milano in 1985, he was board certified in Clinical Neurophysiology (1988) and in Neurology (1993) at the Università di Pavia.
Research Interest
Research in palliative care and pain therapy aims to improve the quality of life at all stages of oncological disease. To this end, research programs are determined by a multidisciplinary vision of the patient's needs, ranging from pharmacological control of symptoms, to psychological interventions and psychosocial support to the family, to spiritual assistance, and also to attention to complementary medicine interventions. The center is part of the European Palliative Care Research Center (PRC) ( www.ntnu.no/prc ), which aims to promote and coordinate palliative care research in a vision of European and international collaboration.
