Research Interest
Although being a marine ecologist with experience in several systems, my first interest is to evaluate the effects of natural or anthropic disturbances on coastal habitats. Most of my research, based on a solid foundation in experimental design and data analysis aimed at hypothesis testing, has been and is focused on examining the ways of distributing benthic populations and their processes responsible for rocky habitats intertidal and subtidal Mediterranean and Northeast Atlantic. My main research lines include: The assessment of the effects of changes in multiple characteristics of individual or combined disorders on coastal biodiversity, with specific interest in the responses of benthic organisms to regime changes (mean intensity and time variance) of climate-related disorders such as the mechanical impact of waves during storms and exposure to air. The assessment of the consequences of the loss or damage of species-forming habitats (algae structuring) for algae and invertebrates associated populations. The description of the modes of distribution and abundance of species of commercial interest, such as sea urchins and mussels, depending on positive anthropogenic influences (presence of protected marine areas) and negative (withdrawal). Analysis of the dynamics and mechanisms of invasion by algae introduced in intertidal and subtidal rocky habitats. Evaluation of the effectiveness of protected marine area systems on algae, invertebrates and fisheries in coastal areas
