Biography
Gabriele GRANDI was born in 1965 in Bologna (Italy) where he actually lives. He received the M.Sc. degree in 1990 (cum laude), and the Ph.D. degree in 1994, both in Electrical Engineering, from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Bologna, Italy. In 1991 he registered as Italian professional Engineer. In the years 1994 and 1995 he has been Lecturer of "Electrotechnics" at the Technical Secondary School in the district of Bologna, Italy. From 1995 to 2005 he was Research Associate of Electrical Engineering at the Dept. of Electrical Engineering, University of Bologna. In 1997 he has been Visiting Researcher at Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU, Trondheim (Norway), Tutor prof. T.M. Undeland. In the years 1999 and 2000 the University of Ferrara assigned to Gabriele Grandi the course of "Electrotechnics". Starting from 2000, the University of Bologna assigned to him the course of "Power electronic circuits" and, from 2004, the course of "Electric circuits theory", at the Faculty of Engineering. In 2005 Gabriele Grandi became Associate Professor, and he became Full Professor in Electrical Engineering (Electrotechnics). He is actually teaching the University courses of “Power electronic circuits” (both Italian and English languages), “Photovoltaic energy conversion”, and “Electric circuits theory”.His research interests are modeling, simulation and design of power electronic circuits, with particular reference to power conditioning systems for renewable energy sources and power quality improvements. He also extended his activity in EMC problems related to power electronics, and HF circuit models for wound components. He recently worked on multiphase and multilevel inverters, considering applications and developments of both carrier-based and space-vector modulation strategies. He was local coordinator of the National Project PRIN (2006-2009): “PV conversion system by multilevel converters”. He is actually coordinator of a research group in the field of power electronics, including PhD students and post-graduated grant holders, and head of the Laboratory on Solar energy conversion (SUNLab) at the Dept. of Electrical Engineering, University of Bologna.Gabriele Grandi is Editor-at-Large for IET Power Electronics, Associate Editor for IEEE Trans. on Industrial Electronics, and Academic Editor for MDPI Energies, Scientific Director for the Book Series Energies (Aracne press), and IEEE Senior Member, Industrial Electronics and Power Electronics Society.
