From 23.12.1983 to 31st October 1998 Researcher of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Naples From November 1, 1998 to December 28, 2003 Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Naples From 29.12.2003 to present Ordinary Professor of Organic Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Naples
Research Interest
The research activity, evidenced by over 100 publications in international journals, has developed in the field of marine natural substances. In a first phase, the systematic study of numerous species belonging to Phyla of Echinodermata and Poriferi has led to the isolation of over 150 metabolites that have never been described before. Some of these metabolites, cyclopeptide and macrolide, have recently been subjected to synthetic studies aimed at the definition of absolute stereochemistry and / or the synthesis of some analogs for the detection of pharmacophore groups. Currently, interest is directed at: a) structural characterization isolation and synthetic studies on peptides with antiviral activity b) chemistry and mechanism of action of cyclodepsipeptides from sponges to antitumor activity c) chemistry and mechanism of action of splenic macrolides to antitumor activity
