The scientific activity focuses on the experimental pharmacological study of the mechanisms underlying intestinal inflammation and related pathologies (such as intestinal tumors and functional diseases induced by an inflammatory process (eg syndrome of the intestinal inflammation irritable bowel). For years it has been devoted to the study of the effects of various naturally occurring compounds (both active and extracted) derived from Cannabis sativa in the aforementioned pathologies. Currently, Dr. Romano is involved in the study of the TRPV4 ion channel (the fourth member of the vanilloid subfamily of TRP channels) in rectal colon cancer.
