Research Interest

It carries out scientific research activities at the macroscopic of Animal Biology and Ecology of the Department of Life Sciences and the Environment of the University of Cagliari. The research is carried out within the framework of cytogenetics of Teleostei (Anguilliforms and some species of Alcicone of Perciforms) and Arthropod fishes including Decapodi crustaceans (shrimp, lobster, scampi, lobster and the invasive dwarfish species Procambarus clarkii) and Fasmidi insects. A cytogenomic approach is used to study the main organizational subtypes of the cytogenetically visualizable genome (karyotype, individual chromosomes, chromosomal regions, different types of sequences), integrating information from molecular and cytogenetic analysis. For this purpose, culturing techniques and differential coloring of chromosomes are used, in situ hybridization techniquesfor the chromosomal mapping of specific DNA sequences and techniques for DNA / nucleus content study. Specific image analysis and cariotyping software is also used. In collaboration with other workgroups it has addressed some biochemical and molecular aspects of the biology of the species studied and in particular: the structure / function relationship of the various hemoglobin components in the Anguilliforms and the Ecuanin of some Decapod Crustaceans and the distribution and pharmacological properties of benzodiazepine receptors in Anguilliforms. Scientific activity is carried out in collaboration with Italian and foreign research laboratories. S. Salvadori is the author of over 70 articles and chapters of books on ISI / Scopus international journals and on national magazines, as well as participation in international and national congresses of his field. He is a member of the UZI (Italian Zoological Union) and is a member of several international journals in his field. He has been responsible or member of many national and local projects.
