Biography
Alberto Continella, PhD in productivity of cultivated plants since 2006 is Assistant Professor at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment (D i 3A) of the University of Catania for the scientific-AGR / 03 "General Arboriculture and crops sector tree. " Graduated in Agricultural Sciences in 1998 at the University of Catania. From November 1998 to April 1999 he attended the "Master of Citizenship and Citizenship" course at the Politecnico Università di Valencia, obtaining the Master on July 26, 1999 with a thesis titled "Transformational genetics en los citricos". In 2002 he was the winner of a two-year research grant at the Department of OrtoForoArboriculture and Agro-Food Technologies of the University of Catania on the topic "Using modern agrobiotechnologies in fruit production". The research program was renewed for another two years in 2004. He was Director of the Experimental Agricultural Agence of the Catania University from 2010 to 2013. From 2013 he is a member of the Management Board of the Experimental Agricultural Business of the University of Catania. Correspondent Academic of the Georgofili Academy of Florence since 2013. Delegate for Sicily of the fruit and vegetable sector of the Italian Orthophoto Orchestral Society. Member of the Doctoral School of Research at the "Productivity of Cultivated Plants in Mediterranean Environment" with an administrative seat at the University of Catania since 2009. He is author of more than 80 publications, including 35 articles on national and international scientific journals.
Research Interest
Genetic enhancement, delicacy and varietal selection of citrus fruits. Finding, protecting and enhancing the fruiting germplasm with particular reference to cherry, pear, apple and olive. Qualitative characterization of the fruit product and post-harvest management of fruits. Ecofisiology of fruit tree crops. Efficiency of irrigation in fruit cultivation.
