Biography
Born on 29/10/64 in Modica (RG), graduated in Electrical Engineering in 1990, Doctor of Research in 1995. Winner in March 1994 of the competition for a post of researcher at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Catania for the group of disciplines G03 - Genius Rural, takes service from the Institute of Agricultural Mechanics from 15 April 1994. Since 18 November 1996 it has been included in the scientific-disciplinary field G05B - Agraria Meccanica. Having received the confirmation on 15 April 1997, it is recalled with DR 30/01/2001 in the scientific-disciplinary sector AGR / 09 - Agraria Meccanica. Declared fit for university professor of second-tier role with DR n. 57/05 / Valcomp of 24/10/05, is appointed university professor of second-tier role, in the scientific-disciplinary field AGR / 09 - Agraria Meccanica, with decree no. 383 of 27/10/05, with effect from 01/11/05. Taken day service 01/11/05 and got the confirmation in role with DR no. 7491 of 02/07/09 (1), is currently a full-time associate professor at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Di3A) of the University of Catania. Starting from AI 1999/2000 he is a member of the College of PhD students in Mechanics and Agricultural Mechanization and, starting with AA 2000/2001, of the one in Agricultural Engineering, both with an administrative seat at the University of Catania . From 2009 to 2012 she is the President of the Internships Commission for the Bachelor Degree in Food Science and Technology. From 2014 she is a lecturer for the Degree Course in Food Science and Technology. He currently teaches at the Course of Studies in Food Science and Technology, where he holds the module of Mechanics machines (three year degree course), and at the Course of Studies in Agricultural Sciences and Technologies where he holds the course of Technologies for the ' innovation and safety in agriculture (master degree). Speaker at numerous conferences, congresses and study seminars, he has been responsible and member of several research units in programs of national interest funded by MIUR (agricultural machinery safety, distribution of agro-chemicals). She is co-author of about 160 publications, many of them presented at national and international conferences and published in specialized journals.
Research Interest
Research and studies on electric drives: Study, simulation and experimentation of advanced control techniques such as adaptive control, fuzzy control, multi-sensor control; Adjusting the sliding gain in asynchronous drive drives; Examination of drive characteristics for electric traction; Managing energy flows in a hybrid propulsion vehicle. Computer Vision Research and Study: Study of different color rendering models (RGB, HSI); Recognition of oranges on coat for automatic harvesting; Recognition of epicarp defects for the automatic selection of oranges. Research and Safety Studies of Workplace Workers: Grinders: vibration exposure, noise, material launch; Softening equipment for drupaceae: vibration, noise exposure; Agricultural machining: exposure to vibration, noise, VOC, powders; Shipyards of collection and warehouses of confezionamento and transformation; Agropharmaceutical dispensing: operator exposure and environmental contamination. Research and studies on post-harvest of fruit and vegetables: Study of processing lines of oranges, potatoes, fichidindia, by electronic balls IS100 and PMS60 to detect the impacts suffered by the fruits in transit; Laboratory survey on repeated shock damage in the same area as the oranges and fichidindia surface. Research and studies on the distribution of agrochemicals: Citrus Treatments: Study of surface coverage and number of fingerprints per square centimeter as variations in the regulation and type of spraying machines (distributed volume, air flow, feed rate, spraying mode); Greenhouse treatments: study of foliar deposit, surface cover and number of fingerprints per square centimeter as the spraying machine in tomato crops (launcher, spraying atomizer, pulse, insectojet, kwh); Treatments in vineyards and tents: study of the effects on leaf deposits of feed rate, air flow rate, volume per hectare and electrostatic charge; Functional check and calibration of sprayers: study of the possibility of using test benches as tools for the preventive calibration of sprayers; Study of prototypes of machines for the reduction of the environmental impact of agropharmaceuticals (tunnel sprayers for treating vineyards) and improvement of operator safety in greenhouse treatments (self-propelled sprayers); Theoretical analysis of sprays by simulation of hydrosensitive maps (study of functional links between dimensional spraying characteristics, surface coverage on maps and unit deposition).
