Biography

The professor. Gaetano Siscaro was born in 1961 Education and Career Gaetano Siscaro, graduated in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Catania in November 1985. April 1992, he has been appointed as a researcher at the disciplinary group GO4 "Plant Production Defense" at the Institute of Agricultural Entomology of the University of Catania. June 1992, at the University of Naples Federico II, holds the title of Doctor of Research in Agricultural Entomology, discussing a thesis on the biology taxonomy of some parasitosis of the Coccophagus genus. January 1996, is confirmed in the role of university researchers for the disciplinary scientific field G06A "Agricultural Entomology" as from April 1995. October 2002, he serves as associate professor at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Catania for the disciplinary grouping AGR 11 "Entomologia generale e applicata". July 2006, he is confirmed as associate professor at the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Management of the University of Catania, which is his present position. Formation abroad September 1987, Montpellier (France), "EURAPHID" training course on integrated control of Aphid infestations; September 1994, Antibes (France), an improvement course on the parasites of aleiras of agricultural interest at the Invertebrate Biology Laboratory of INRA; April 1999, Silwood Park "The Imperial College" (England), specialist course at the Natural History Museum in London on taxonomy and biology of parasitosis. Scientific affiliations - Italian Entomological Society (SEI) Section of Agricultural Entomology; - International Society of Citriculture (ISC); - International Organisation for Biological and Integrated Control of Noxious Animals and Plants - West Palaearctic Regional Section (IOBC / wprs); - International Society of Hymenopterists (ISH). 

Research Interest

The research activity has been conducted since 1986 at the Institute of Agricultural Entomology before and later at the Department of Agro - Food and Environmental Management (GESA) (former Department of Phytosanitary Sciences - DISTEF) of the University of Studies of Catania. Prof. Siscaro has developed an ultraventennial basic research experience and applied on phytophages of economic importance in Italy. Since 1992 she has been actively involved in the IOBC / wprs Working Group on Integrated Control of Citrus Pests and Integrated Control in Protected Crops Mediterranean Climate and has also been a local organizer of the IOBC IPM Citrus Meeting held in Catania in November 2007 . Overall, he has published more than 100 scientific and technical papers, mainly on the following topics: - Integrated control of citrus fruit seeds and protected crops; - exploitation and exploitation of phytophagous antagonists of economic interest; - taxonomy and biology of parasitosis of phytophages of agricultural and forestry interest.
