Biography
Born in Brescia on October 14, 1950. 1975 Graduated with praise in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pavia (pupil of the Collegio Ghislieri). 1976-1987 Fellow, Assistant Assistant and Researcher confirmed at the Institute of Human Physiology, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pavia. 1985 - 1987 Senior Investigator at the Department of Pharmacology - Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN, USA). 1987-1994 Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Florence. 1994-now Professor of Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Florence. 2002-now Coordinator of Ph.D. in Physiological and Nutritional Sciences. 2003 Visiting Scientist for 3 Months at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, D. Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA, CA, USA. 2006-2008 Director of the Department of Physiological Sciences. 2008-present Representative of the Biomedical Area in the Academic Senate of the University of Florence. Scientific activity concerns biophysical aspects of contractile mechanism (chemical-mechanical transduction, Ca2 + contraction adjustment) in skeletal and cardiac muscle. For some years, micromechanical and microperfusion techniques have been developed in my laboratory to measure myofibrite strengths isolated from samples of human and human skeletal muscle and animal models in response to rapid chemical disturbances. These techniques, currently also used for the study of some cardiomyopathy, have been reproduced in whole or in part in several US, European and Japanese laboratories. He has been and is in charge of European research funding, MiUR and Telethon. He is a referee of national research agencies (National Science Foundation, USA, Canada Council for the Arts) and national (MiUR, Cassa di Risparmio di Padova Foundation) and scientific journals (J. Physiol., Biophys J., Am J. Physiol., Pflugers Archiv, J. Muscle Research & Cell Motility). He has been part of the Organizing Committee and / or the Scientific Committee of International Congresses and has been invited to many international symposia. He is a member of the Biophysical Society, the European Society for Muscle Research, the Italian Society of Physiology and the Mayo Alumni Association. Since 2008, he has been a member of the Italian Society of Physiology
