Research Interest
Research builds on Marshall's contributions to the Organization of Industry, along with contemporary models of analysis of industrial organization and the investigation of case studies. In particular: - Investigation of the problems of organization in production systems with a decentralized entrepreneurial structure, focusing on the solutions that are suggested by or consistent with conditions that are typically found in industrial districts. - In particular, defining conceptual frameworks on the opportunities and limits of decentralized industrial creativity, processes of continuous and discontinuous change in industrial districts, the support of specific public goods to the realization of various classes of district economies and processes of district internationalization supported by trans-local public goods. - Defining various paths of local development more or less dissimilar from the classical district path, including the dynamic city, local systems with embedded large firms, and high tech clusters. - Applied research on the characteristics of industrial development in Guandong (China), considering the comparison between the importance of specialized cities there and the development of industrial districts in some Italian regions - Applied research on innovation policies and university-industry relations in local and regional spaces. Theoretical research has thus combined with empirical investigation and coordination of research projects. This combination has been realized at regional (especially Tuscany), national and international level, also through participation in various research groups and several conferences and workshops, national and international.
