Biography

Graduated in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology, University of Florence. 1996-1997 Visiting Fellow at the Laboratory led by Dr. Bharati Bapat, Dept. of Molecular Pathology, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, Ontario (Canada) 1997 Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Florence. 1998-2001 Postdoctoral scholarship at Dip. Di Pharmacology, University of Florence. 2002-2003 Research Assistant at the Department of Pharmacology, University of Florence. 2004-2007 Researcher at the Department of Pharmacology, University of Florence. 2006 Visiting Fellow at the Laboratory led by Dr. Chris T.A. Evelo, BiGCaT Bioinformatics, University of Maastricht, The Netherlands 2007 to present Researcher at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Florence. For many years he has been working on cancerogenesis and environmental risk factors (including diet), with particular attention to colon cancer and modulation of gene expression and DNA damage in normal and neoplastic cells, both in vitro and in vitro . More recently, he has devoted himself to nutrigenomics studies in chronic intestinal inflammation models, experimental colic cancer and aging, and the analysis of molecular determinants associated with resistance to cytotoxic chemotherapies.

Research Interest

Correlations among environmental factors, DNA damage and cancer development Modulation of cell functions induced by toxic chemicals and dietary factors Exosome-associated miRNAs in the tumor microenvironment Identification of foods or food components with potential anti-inflammatory and chemoprotective activities
