Biography
Prof.ssa BALDINI Laura graduated in Chemistry at the University of Parma in 1998, discussing the thesis titled "Summary of new calixarene binders and study of their complexes with alkaline-earthy and lanthanide cations in solution and solid state "(Rapporteurs: Prof. R. Ungaro, Ph.D. Ugozzoli, A. Casnati) and in 2002 obtained the title of Doctor of Research in Chemistry at the same University" Peptido- and Porphyrinocalix "[4] Arenes in Anion Recognition and Self-Assembly "(Speakers: Prof. R. Ungaro, Prof. A. Casnati). In 1998 (February - May) he was a part of his thesis at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Jyväskylä (Finland) under the guidance of prof. K. Rissanen ("Erasmus" project ) conducting solid structural studies of calixarenes and metal complexes of calixarenes. In 2000-2001 (October - April) he spent a working period at the research group of prof. CA Hunter at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Sheffield (UK) obtaining the synthesis of new porfirinocalix [4] arenas for the formation of assembled auto capsules. From January to June 2002 he was appointed as temporary substitute professor for the Chemistry course at the ITIS "Leonardo da Vinci" high school in Parma.
Research Interest
Supramolecular Chemistry and involves the synthesis and the functionalization of calixarenes (phenolic formaldehyde macrocycles) with natural molecules and of biological interest with the aim of obtaining chemical, biological or pharmaceutical active molecule receptors . Currently, calixarenes conjugated with amino acids, peptides, sugars and guanidinium groups are studied to show molecular recognition properties to small organic anions, amino acids, or to biological macromolecules such as protein or DNA.
