Biography

Gianluca Quarta is Associate Professor (SSD Fis / 07: Physics Applied to Cultural, Environmental, Biology and Medicine) at the Department of Mathematics and Physics "Ennio de Giorgi" of the University of Salento. He obtained his scientific maturity at the Liceo Scientifico Statale "C.De Giorgi" of Lecce in 1993 with a vote of 60/60; He graduated with a degree in Materials Engineering at the University of Lecce where he obtained his Ph.D. in "Materials Engineering" in 2004, discussing a thesis titled Accelerator Mass Spectrometry radiocarbon dating: fundamentals and applications. He has held training and research on radiocarbon dating at the Leibniz Labor for Radiocarbon Dating at the Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel-Germany, at the High Voltage Engineering Europa-Amersfoort (Netherlands) and at the Radiodation and Analysis Laboratory of materials by ionic waveguides of the Federal Polytechnic of Zurich (ETH) acquiring specific expertise on dating by AMS: Accelerator Mass Spectrometry. He participated in the design and installation of all experimental analysis lines at CEDAD: Particle Induced X-Ray Emission (PIXE) and PIGE (Particle Induced Gamma Ray Emission), Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS) nuclear microswitch. He is referee for the journals: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Reserch B, Elsevier, Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, Elsevier and Radiocarbon, University of Arizona. He has been part of the organizing committee of the International Conference "Accelerator in Applied Research and Technology", Florence, 3-7 September 2007, and the International Conference on Accelerator Mass Spectrometry, AMS11, Rome, September 2008. E 'author of about 100 publications on international journals with referee and 100 communications to national and international scientific congresses.

Research Interest

The research deals with both fundamental and application aspects related to the use of nuclear spectroscopy techniques for material diagnosis and dating with radiocarbon.
