Biography
Pasquale Longo was born in Giffoni six Casali (SA) in 1955 and graduated in Chemistry in 1979 at the University of Naples. He was a graduate of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Salerno from 1984 to 1992. From November 1992 to October 2000 he was Associate Professor and from November 2000 he is Ordinary Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry and Biology 'University of Salerno. He has courses in General and Inorganic Chemistry and Bioinorganic Chemistry. His research activity was first directed towards the synthesis, characterization and catalysis of organometallic compounds of group 10, and then, since 1985, to the stereospecific polymerization catalysis of olefins and dienes. He currently works in the field of synthesis of organometallic compounds with biological activity, in the synthesis of new ruthenium compounds active in oleate metathesis reactions and in the microstructural characterization of stereoregular polymeric materials, obtained both by polyaddition and via Ring Opening Metathesis Polymerization. The research activity of prof. Longo is documented by about 160 articles on international scientific journals with a high impact factor and more than a dozen international patents. His name is included in the TIS (Top Italian Scientist) list, having a h-index of 33 and a sum of quotations above 3800. In 2017 he received the Prize for Research from the New Popular Medical School Salernitana ( UPNSMS) and the 2017 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievemente Award. In 2017, with the TNcKillers project , he won the second prize at StartCup Basilicata in the LIFE category. From November 1992 to May 1997 he was the coordinator of the Lecture Course in Chemistry, from May 1997 to November 2005 he was Chairman of the Chemistry Area and from November 2008 to December 2010 he was Director of the Department of Chemistry. From November 2000 to October 2008 he was Vicar of the Faculty of Science at the University of Salerno, was delegated to the Rector for the Job-Placement of the University from November 2013 to November 2016.
