Research Interest
esearch activity Translational research activities in the cardiovascular clinical field. The main aim of the research is to develop innovative diagnostic tools that can predict and limit the risk of thrombotic and hemorrhagic complications in patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs, ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenator, ECMO) . The research is carried out in collaboration with the Department of Intensive Cardiac Surgery and with the Thrombotic Research Unit of the San Raffaele Hospital of Milan (Dr. Federico Pappalardo, Dr. Alberto Zangrillo, Dr. Armando D'Angelo). The research is carried out by combining the use of different methodologies such as: non-invasive diagnostic for the evaluation of ventricular emodynamics (3D TT Echo) Numerical simulation (CFD) for predicting damage to blood cells (platelets) induced by mechanical stress (shear-stress) within the circulatory care systems (Platelet Activity State (PAS) assay, Thrombin Generation Test (TGT)) for the in vivo characterization of platelet activation phenomena and the effectiveness of pharmacological therapy.
