Arlene Alvarez

Biography

Arlene Alvarez is an affiliated PhD researcher at Leiden University. She has a Masters degree in Public Administration with a concentration in nonprofit marketing and management through the National Urban Fellowship-Baruch College, School of Public Affairs, City University of New York (2000). She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and Political Science from Rutgers University (1995). As the Director of the Altos de Chavon Regional Museum of Archaeology since the year 2000, she has been in charge of developing programs to increase appreciation for the indigenous heritage of the Dominican Republic. Her main research interests are heritage management, community participation, and social development. She contributes to the Nexus 1492 project through her research on access to indigenous heritage public and private collections, exploring ways to improve heritage policies, and enrich cultural identity discussions in the Dominican Republic and at a regional level.
