Biography

Wim Naudé is Professorial Fellow at UNU-MERIT and the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance, University of Maastricht. He is also Professor in Development Economics and Entrepreneurship, and Director of Research at the Maastricht School of Management. Before coming to Maastricht, Wim was Senior Research Fellow and Project Director at the United Nations University’s World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER). A graduate of the University of Warwick he is, and has been, member of a number of international networks and advisory bodies including the International Council for Small Business (ICSB), the Club de Madrid and the Households in Conflict Network (HiCN). He has been a Senior Associate Member of St. Antony’s College, Oxford and has served on the Faculty of Brown University’s International Advanced Research Institutes (BIARI) on technology entrepreneurship. He has also been a full professor and research director at North-West University, South Africa; a council member of Statistics South Africa; and a lecturer and research officer at the University of Oxford (Centre for the Study of African Economies). As an elected councilor he served five years in local government in South Africa. His research focuses on entrepreneurship and governance, global development, spatial economics and the economic development of Africa. He has been guest editor of a number of journal special issues, including of Journal of Development Studies, Small Business Economics, Oxford Development Studies, Journal of International Development and European Journal of Development Research. He is an associate editor of Small Business Economic Journal.
