Biography
Marleen van Rijswick is Professor of European and National Water Law and leads the Utrecht Center for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law (see http://ucwosl.rebo.uu.nl/). It is particularly concerned with the question of how the right can contribute to fair and sustainable water management based on shared responsibilities. This is done through multidisciplinary cooperation and comparative law. Its research is broad and focuses on cross-border cooperation within river basins, flood protection, water quality, adaptation to climate change, urban water management and freshwater supply. She examines the place of water law in European law and national environmental law, state and administrative law. She wrote numerous national and international publications in the field of water law and environmental law, including the Dutch Water Law in the Netherlands (Kluwer), Dutch Water Law in the European Context (Kluwer) and European Law and European Law Publishing (both together with HJM Havekes) and worked on various books in the field of environmental law.
