Biography
Dr. Wael M. Al Kattan is presently working as an Associate Professor and Consultant of Surgery, Director of the Academic and Student Affairs since January 2008, and the Head of Department of Surgery at the College of Medicine, Alfaisal University, since January 2013. He is a senior consultant surgeon in Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Department of Surgical Specialties in King Fahad Medical City, Ministry of Health. Dr. Al Kattan completed his Bachelor degree in medicine and surgery in 1997 from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He was appointed as an administrator in the Department of Surgery, College of Medicine, King Saud University, and he was granted a scholarship for his post graduate training in Canada. Dr. Al Kattan completed his general surgery residency training at the University of Toronto, Canada. He obtained his fellowship qualification (FRCSC) from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada in 2003. After obtaining his Canadian Board in general surgery, Dr. Al Kattan joined the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, as a fellow of the Royal College in the Department of Surgery and he successfully completed a fellowship in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic surgery and Liver Transplantation and a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery ( Laparoscopic Surgery) in 2005. Besides, Dr. Al Kattan has a great interest in medical education, particularly curriculum design and development, as well as assessment methods in health education. He obtained his Macy Program (Diploma Program for Educators and Health Care Professionals) from Harvard Macy Institute, Boston, USA, in 2009. He is currently finishing his master degree in medical education from the University of Dundee, Scotland, UK.
