Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kaminski

Biography

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kaminski, born on 8 February 1963 in Waal (Ostallgäu in Bavaria), studied medical science at LMU (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) in Munich and received the licence to practice medicine in 1991. Following his time as an assistant physician in the departments of cardiology and preventive cardiology at the Innenstadtklinikum in Munich (1989 – 1993), he received his doctor’s degree at Max-von-Pettenkofer-Institut in Munich in 1993. After that, he spent five years in the USA, initially as a postdoc at Cornell University, NY (1993 – 94), then as a DFG fellow at the University of Washington, Seattle (1994 – 96), where he later also worked as a visiting fellow at the Center for Vascular Biology (1996 – 98). In 1998, he returned to Germany to work at the Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine of the University of Regensburg, where he completed his specialist medical training in the field of laboratory medicine and obtained his recognition in 2004. In 2005, Wolfgang Kaminski obtained an additional specialisation in “Blood Transfusion Medicine”, received his lecturing qualification in the subject of laboratory medicine in Regensburg, and was appointed private lecturer at the Mannheim Faculty of Medicine of the Heidelberg University. Following his work as a senior physician and deputy director of the institute, he was appointed professor for laboratory medicine at RKU Heidelberg (Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg) where he acted as a lecturer at the Institute for Clinical Chemistry of the Mannheim University Medical Centre until 2013. Since April 2013, Professor Kaminski has been the Medical Director of Bioscientia-MVZ in Ingelheim. His medical focus is on haematology, atherosclerosis research and molecular immunology. Since 1 April 2017, in his capacity as the Medical Director of Bioscientia, he has been in charge of the “medical leadership” of our entire Group.
