Biography
I started my career as a midwife working mainly on Delivery Suite at Bradford Royal Infirmary. I then worked as a Ward Based Teacher, Clinical Educator.and then Lead Clinical Educator at BRI, teaching and supporting medical students on clinical placement. I was the first Clinical Teacher at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, again teaching and supporting medical students on placement. As Lead Consultation Skills Trainer at the University of Leicester Medical School I was responsible for Year 1, 2 & 3 Medical students teaching and assessment of communication, history taking and physical examinations skills. I also organised OSCEs for 1st and 3rd year students, training simulated patients, examiners, setting standards and giving feedback. I trained and qualified as a Physician Assistant (Anaesthesia) in Sheffield to retain clinical contact and further extend my knowledge and experience. I worked sessionally at the University of Leeds Medical School for five years teaching on the IDEALS and SAFER MEDIC courses while working as a trainee PA(A) and while my daughter was young. I delivered teaching and facilitated learning on a range of subjects including patient safety, learning and teaching, teamwork, leadership, resilience, emotional intelligence, root cause analysis, change management, quality assurance, professionalism and reflection. More recently I was Programme Lead for the integrated BSc in Medical Education at the University of Leeds, covering maternity leave. In my year on the course I was able to use my education experience to teach students about curriculum development, assessment and reflection and make changes to the course for future cohorts. In July 2017 I started work in my current role at the University of Bradford and look forward to training and supporting a relatively new profession in the UK.
