Laura Tyndall

Biography

I am a Senior Lecturer in Childhood Studies where my focus and specific subject interest includes Child Protection, Attachment and Developmental Psychology. I originally graduated with a BA (Hons) in Politics and Psychology from the University of Loughborough. I later went on to complete the Diploma in Social Work via the Open University where I specialised in children and adolescents leaving the care system and working with older people in residential care. My experience is extremely diverse and my relevant practice includes working in Child Protection, the Leaving Care System, Clinical/Therapeutic Practice for Child Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS), Youth Offending, Fostering and Residential Care for Children. I have spent four years in Australia, Queensland where I managed, set up and created the first Therapeutic Residential in the South East of Queensland. I was greatly inspired by the research of Dr B. Perry and Dr D. Hughes in developing this Service. My most recent position includes my clinical work within the CAMHS setting where I provided consultancy to agencies including the Youth Offending Service and Adolescent Social Care. I further provided therapy, assessment and clinical care for children and families with complex mental health difficulties. My post enabled me to continue my clinical research where I completed my Post Graduate in Mental Health and Multidisciplinary Practice at the Tavistock Institute (NHS). I specialised in subjects including Systemic Practice, Psychoanalysis and Child Development.
