Biography
Phil Banfill is a materials scientist, with 30 years experience of research and education in a university environment. He was appointed Professor of Construction Materials at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, in 1995 and has published two books and over 130 papers on construction materials. Most of his work has been concerned with materials, but the sustainability theme brought him into the research community concerned with energy in buildings.

Sustainability, energy use and CO2 emissions from buildings. Building conservation and education. Rheology of cement based materials. Processing of concrete. Chemistry of admixtures and their interactions with cement. Special cements and cement blending agents. Traditional and modern limes.
