Sharma Ramkissoon

Biography

"Sharma has been working in nurse education since 1985, first as practice nurse tutor then as a registered nurse tutor in pre-registration nursing and continuing professional development for qualified nurses. Sharma is the field lead in learning disability for the BSc pre-registration nursing programme and leads modules in applying clinical reasoning and decision making in learning disability, identifying and meeting health needs in learning disability and in cognitive behaviour. Sharma is also an academic supervisor for students studying at masters level, and a clinical liaison tutor, overseeing the quality of clinical placements in two independent care providers and in two NHS healthcare settings. Sharma's key teaching and research interests are in nurse education and cognitive behavioural therapy. Sharma is a fully accredited psychotherapist with the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)and is currently practising as an honorary cognitive behavioural therapist in an NHS Trust, as well as undertaking research on the influence of culture on the cognitive appraisal of individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)."

Research Interest

Sharma is currently studying for the doctorate level in psychotherapy and his research interest is the influence of cultures on cognitive appraisal of trauma survivors following PTSD.
