Biography

 Bill Michael was appointed Chairman and Senior Partner at KPMG in the UK on 1 July 2017. He has over 20 years’ experience in global corporate and investment banking. He qualified as a chartered accountant in Australia before moving to the UK to work with global banking clients such as JP Morgan, Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, and Barclays. He is well known to many global FS institutions having led major regulatory and advisory projects, finance and risk governance reviews, cross border due diligence and reviews of high level controls of major global organisations. Over the last 5 years, he has spearheaded KPMG’s work relating to the financial crisis and championed the debate about bank culture and standards and the need for change in the industry. Bill was special advisor to the UK's Treasury Select Committee into Banking Standards and is a leading figure in the Fair and Effective Markets Review into global wholesale markets. More recently, in response to the seismic change in bank regulation in Europe, he has established KPMG’s European Central Bank office, aiming to give banks across Europe a consistent perspective of how their world is changing. As KPMG’s Global Head of Banking and Capital Markets, Bill leads a network of over 17,000 professionals across audit, tax and advisory. He also leads KPMG professionals working across the full suite of Financial Services clients in the EMA region, including banking, insurance and investment management.
