Biography
Michael Liu, Ph.D is a postdoctoral research associate at the new Centre For Immunology and Vaccinology. He joined the group of Prof. Xiao-Ning Xu in July 2014. Michael Liu has been researching human T cell immunology for over a decade. He began his research career in 2001 joining the lab of Dave Sansom at the MRC Centre For Immune Regulation at the University of Birmingham as a Ph.D student. His focus there was the role of the extended CD28-B7 superfamily of costimulation of human CD4+ T cells. Following a short stint at the Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Blantyre, Malawi, he joined the lab of Sir Andrew McMichael at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, University of Oxford. There he investigated the role of CD8+ T cells during acute HIV-1 infection and their effect upon the evolution of the virus.
