Biography
I am a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Services Research in the Centre for Mental Health. My background is in Sociology and Social Policy. I completed my PhD at Imperial College on the evaluation of complex community based mental health interventions such as case management. My academic interests are in the fields of community mental health provision and substance misuse treatment. My current projects include two large randomised controlled trials of contingency management in opiate treatment. (Contingency management is a psycho-social intervention which uses voucher based positive reinforcement to promote behaviour change consistent with treatment goals.) My other current or recent projects have focused on forensic treatment services for people with severe personality disorder, home treatment and crisis resolution services for people with mental health problems, an evaluation of a service for problem gamblers and approaches to mental health service user involvement. I have current active research collaborations with investigators at Kings College London, University College London and Nottingham University. Within the college, I am a Deputy Directors of Postgraduate Studies responsible for Research Degrees in the Centre for Mental Health and across the Division of Brain Sciences. I am also Joint Course Director for the BSc Neuroscience & Mental Health.
