Biography
Neil obtained his BSc in Computing in 1991 and his PgC in Computer Science in 1992 from Northumbria University while working for the NHS. He later moved into the Chemical Industry until joining Northumbria University as an Academic in 1998. He started as a Lecturer and soon became a Senior lecturer teaching mainly in the programming and databases subject areas. During that time he also took a 5-year secondment to work on the Universities e-Business project as a Principal Lecturer and returned to the faculty in 2009 to resume his role as a Senior Lecturer. Neil now teaches Operating Systems Integration, Programming and Sensor Networks.
Research Interest
Neil is now 3 years into his part-time PhD looking at the emergent behaviours in swarms and also investigating how the swarming algorithms can increase energy efficiency in mobile swarms.
