Biography
Matthew Tickle is a Lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain Management at the University of Liverpool. He holds a BSc and a PhD in Operations Management, both from the University of Liverpool. His PhD thesis created a framework for building and managing business-to-business virtual communities. Matthew is the Director of Studies for the online MSc in Operations and Supply Chain Management and has taught on a number of Management modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. He was previously the module leader for the Total Quality Management module and has also taught the Supply Chain Operations Management module online in the University's partnership with Laureate. Prior to his Academic appointment, Matthew worked as a project manager in the software development industry and managed projects in excess of 50,000 US dollars.
Research Interest
Matthew’s research interests include Operations and Supply Chain Management, in particular Humanitarian Supply Chains, Quality management, and e-business tools and technologies. Matthew is currently working on the Collaborate to Innovate research project with Professor Andrew Lyons. Funded by the European Union’s ERDF funding scheme, this project provides tailored assistance to small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in the North West of England. Through the project, some businesses have already received improvements to operational processes including production planning, quality systems and procedures, lean manufacturing and performance measurement systems. Others received technical support in setting up business-to-business (B2B) IT systems whilst others still have received improvements in supplier selection and working practices.
