Biography
Dr Julian Richards gained a PhD in political violence in Pakistan, at Cambridge University, in 1993. He then spent nearly 20 years working in intelligence and security for the British Government, returning to academic life as a Research Fellow with Brunel University’s Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies in 2006. In 2008, he jointly founded the new Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies(BUCSIS) at the University of Buckingham, and joined the Global Affairs teaching staff two years later. His affiliations include Advisory Board member of the European Observatoire des Think-Tanks; Associate of the Pakistan Security Research Unit (PSRU) at the University of Durham; Co-Section Chair of the Intelligence Studies Section of the International Studies Association (ISA); and editorial board member for the Spanish journal Intelligencia y seguridad.
Research Interest
His current research interests include a range of issues concerning global security and security policy; and the development of techniques in intelligence analysis.
