Biography
Franco is an ATS lecturer in Econometrics and a member of the ESRC Centre for Competition Policy. He obtained his Bachelor degree in Economics and Commerce from University of Venice and his Master’s degree of Economics and Finance from Venice International University. He completed his Doctorate in Quantitative Economics in 2004 at University of Venice. During his doctoral program he spent one year at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and half a year at Harvard University. At the beginning of 2004 he joined the MEA, Mannheim Institute for the Economics of Ageing, Mannheim, to collaborate on the first wave of SHARE: Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe. From September 2004 to August 2007 he covered the position of Contract Lecturer at the Department of Economics, Trinity College Dublin. He then held a Postdoctoral Research position: one year at the Department of Economics and Econometrics of the University of Groningen and three years at Geary Institute, University College Dublin.
Research Interest
Franco’s research interests are Applied Econometrics and Industrial Organization. He has worked with structural econometrics models to evaluate horizontal mergers and acquisitions in differentiated products industries and has done work on Cartels. He has contributed to a report for the European Competition Commission. He is currently pursuing research in Industrial Organization on the research areas: taxation; mobile applications; pay-to-delay deals, returns from new products and varieties; cartel punishment, consumer reviews. He is also pursuing a quantitative analysis on the historical urban evolution of Dublin, Ireland.
