Sally Scott

Biography

Before joining the staff team at the University of Huddersfield, I was employed in social care settings for 15 years. I worked as a residential care officer, before qualifying as a social worker in 1998 and moving to Eire to work in a generic social work team in Limerick. In 2006 I returned to the UK and managed the Yorkshire Coalfields social work team. From 2007 to 2009 I worked with Kirklees local authority. I was seconded to the University of Huddersfield in May 2009 as a lecturer practitioner and now work part-time at the University as a senior lecturer.

Research Interest

My MA research examined the assessment of risk in Child Protection cases and was based on an analysis of case studies and interviews with staff from agencies involved in an Area Child Protection Committee in South Yorkshire. My MSc study examined the experiences of young people leaving the care system in the Mid West of Ireland. This research formed the basis for the development of a new leaving care service for young people aged 16-21 years. My future research interests include the evaluation of practice learning opportunities for Social Work students and the impact of the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment on graduate employment and retention.
