Biography
"Dr. Eugene Mohareb, Currently working as Lecturer in Sustainable Urban Systems, School of Construction, Management and Engineering, University of Reading, United Kingdom. Qualifications: B.Sc. (Eng) University of Guelph; M.Sc. University of Guelph; Ph.D. University of Toronto After completing my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biological Engineering from the University of Guelph, I worked for 4 years as an independent consultant in the food industry. Upon receipt of a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) doctoral scholarship, I completed my doctorate thesis at the University of Toronto entitled ""Quantifying the Transition to Low-Carbon Cities"". My post-doctoral work has included assisting with capacity building for rural infrastructure improvement in partnership with UN-HABITAT and the Lao Clean Water Agency (Nam Sa'at), consulting as a policy analyst for the Pembina Institute (an energy think tank) and conducting research as a visiting scholar (NSERC-PDF) within the Centre for Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge. My work at Reading will continue to build upon research related to urban sustainability and GHG emissions. "
Research Interest
My research is centred around the investigation of the role of cities in reducing global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This includes examinations within topics such as scenario modelling of urban GHG emissions, urban contributions to reductions in food system GHG emissions, and the adoption of low-carbon technologies within cities. Additionally, I apply energy and material flow analysis in cities towards an understanding of the carbon component of urban metabolism. Ultimately, my research explores policy goals that can be adopted at the city scale to lead the global economy to a low-carbon future.
