Biography

Jennifer is a Lecturer in Adult Nursing who has practiced as an adult nurse for over 11 years, specialising as a senior peri-operative nurse in orthopaedic trauma and major trauma surgery. She has worked at a number of major trauma institutions, and was a sister in Orthopaedic Trauma theatres prior to commencing her role at the University of Salford. Previous roles include working as an Nurse Practitioner on Surgical Triage, and as part of a team setting up the peri-operative Major Trauma unit as a major teaching hospital. She has extensive experience within the emergency surgical field, working across specialities such as vascular surgery and Burns surgery. As a result, she has undertaken extensive specialist training in these roles, including cadaver courses and specialist training days. As well as a BSc (hons) in Nursing, Jennifer also has a MSc (hons) in Public Health. She is currently pursuing her PhD, looking at peri-operative practice and surgical site infections in Uganda and the UK. Research Interest

Jennifer is part of the Knowledge, Health and Place Research group. Her research interest combine Global health and peri-operative surgery, and she is currently looking at the causes and complications of surgical site infections in Uganda. She also has additional research interests in the availability and efficacy of specialist orthopaedic trauma knowledge and training amongst undergraduate and post-graduate nurses in the UK and Uganda.
