Biography
Professor John W McBride is Professor of Electro-Mechanical Engineering within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton. John McBride is the CEO of the University of Southampton Malaysia Campus, prior to this he was the Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment and a member of the electro-mechanical research group at the University of Southampton, UK. He is an expert on electrical contact physics and surface characterisation; he has published over 200 papers, 3 patents, and is an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Components and Packaging Technology (CPT). As PI he has completed projects worth in excess of £7.5Million (RM37.5 Million) and supervised as chair over 20 Ph.D students. He has chaired sessions and acted on the organising committees of numerous international conferences. In 2006 he was awarded the IEEE Holm Scientific Achievement Award, an international award recognising outstanding scientists and engineers in the field of electrical contacts or related technologies. In 2008 he was team leader for the award of the international James A. Lindner Prize for research on the “Sound Archive Project”. In 2001 he established the spin out company TaiCaan Technologies a world leader in optical surface profiling.
