Biography
He is Director of the University's Centre for English Identity and Politics, set up to explore the relationship between a growing sense of English identity and the development of local and national politics in England. The Centre is formally launched on 23 November 2015.
Research Interest
His research interests are in the national identities of English residents and the ways these are reflected in political choices at local and national level. Through the Centre for English Identity and Politics, he bring together leading academic research with the perspectives of political activists, commentators and cultural actors. Recent such events include 'The role of English issues in the 2015 general election' and 'England and the EU referendum' (both 2016) and 'an Englishness open to all?' (forthcoming March 2017).
