Biography

Carol N. Schwanger is Associate Professor of Music at Alvernia University, where she has served on the faculty since 1976. She is the 2006 recipient of the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching. Previous awards have been Alvernia’s Sister Donatilla Award for "long and distinguished service" and "Certificate of Teaching Excellence" from Montgomery County Community College. Carol holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from West Chester State College and a Master of Music in Bassoon Performance from the North Texas State University. She has taught music at Kutztown State College and Muhlenberg College, and at various studios of music in the Reading area. Carol maintains an active performance career, playing bassoon in numerous recitals and concerts of classical music every year. She has performed with Pottstown Symphony Orchestra, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Reading Pops Orchestra, Providence Chamber Orchestra, Berks Chamber Orchestra, FYVE Woodwind Quintet, Chandler Chamber Ensemble, Pottstown Band, and numerous other groups. At Alvernia, Carol has organized and performed in many faculty recitals and has sung in choirs for Masses and other special events. She has given numerous guest lectures on musical topics both on and off campus.
