University of Groningen, M.A., Philosophy, cum laude, 1995 University of Cambridge, M.Phil., Classics, specialization in Ancient Philosophy, 1996 University of Groningen, Ph.D., Philosophy, cum laude, 2003 Pieter Sjoerd Hasper specializes in ancient philosophy. He has published on Presocratic Philosophy (Zeno and Democritus) as well as on Aristotle, and is primarily interested in issues and arguments in physics and metaphysics (teleology, continuity and infinite divisibility, mereology, the status of universals), logic and dialectic (Aristotle's theory of fallacy, the different uses dialectic in Aristotle), Aristotle's account of science and scientific explanation (including its consequences for his general metaphysics as well as the ontology of mathematics), epistemology and the interaction between mathematics and philosophy in antiquity. He has also a strong interest in the manuscript tradition of Aristotle's works, primarily the organon.
